Cable TV
The TV channels licensed through Copyswede are those where the broadcaster has not purchased the cable TV rights from the different authors, performers and producers who in some way have contributed to the contents of the channel. Such is the case for a large number of Nordic and continental European radio and TV channels.
For more than 10 years, Copyswede has had a standard agreement for the retransmission of certain radio and TV channels. This agreement is based on a normative agreement with The Swedish Cable Operators Association. By having received a mandate from its member organisations and partners and pursuant to the extended collective license regulation in 42 a) and f) §§ of the Copyright Act, the Copyswede license covers all rights in the channels.
The cable operators pay remuneration for their usage in the form of a certain amount per channel/household/month. 6% VAT is added to the copyright remuneration.
Information concerning cable TV can be found in a special leaflet. Copyswede collects more than SEK 30 million per annum in cable TV remuneration. Out of this total, TV and radio companies receive 35.5% via UBOS, Copyswede on behalf of authors, performers and phonogram producers receives 35.5% and film producers 29%. The remuneration is then further divided within the different categories.
From its share, Copyswede sends remuneration for the foreign channels to the organisations in the countries where each channel originates, once a deduction has been made for STIMs part of the remuneration. By the same token, Copyswede receives remuneration from other countries for retransmission of Swedish TV channels in these countries.
Copyswedes share of the total cable TV remunerations is distributed individually to all categories of authors and performers. Part of this distribution is made through Copyswede.
